On November 10, the About Amazon blog published "Living with pets using Alexa and Amazon devices, recommended by Amazon employees".
In the blog, we interviewed three Amazon Japan employees who live with pets about how they actually incorporate Alexa and Amazon devices into their lives with pets. It introduces how various Amazon devices are used to make daily life with pets more comfortable. This article summarizes the contents of the blog.
Observing with Echo Show series and Fire tablet so that young pets do not mischief I have (6 months old). Kotaro-kun is usually very quiet, but when he wants sweets, he makes a happy face, and when he's excited, he looks like he's about to go on a rampage. narrow down
Although every day spent with Kotaro-kun was soothing, Mr. Hirano said that it was his first time owning a dog, so there were many things he didn't understand and worried about at first. I was particularly worried about Kotaro-kun, who is still young, and that he would play pranks when I took my eyes off him in the room. Therefore, Mr. Hirano introduced an Amazon Echo Show 5, a Fire HD 10 tablet, and a Panasonic HD network camera compatible with Alexa as soon as Kotaro arrived.
Since last year, Mr. Hirano, who says he spends a lot of time working from home, observes Kotaro from various places in the room. For example, when I'm at work, I set up an Echo Show 5 next to my computer, say "Alexa, show me the pet camera," and monitor Kotaro-kun's appearance on the Panasonic HD network camera in the living room. The Panasonic HD network camera has an automatic tracking function, and the camera moves about 360° left and right and about 90° up and down, and automatically captures Kotaro-kun's energetic movement, which is very helpful.
When I'm in the kitchen, I watch Kotaro-kun from my Fire tablet. Even if your hands are full while cooking, you can check the video just by saying "Alexa, show me the pet camera". In addition, he sometimes looks at cooking recipes on his Fire tablet and makes video calls with his family using Alexa while showing Kotaro-kun how he is doing.
Using Alexa to control room temperature for pets
The next interviewee was Mutsumi Iijima (Senior Product Manager, Amazon Japan Echo Smart Home Device Division). His family has a rabbit named Netherland Dwarf. His name is Chokota-kun (5 years old). Six years ago, on his son's birthday, he became a member of the family because he wanted a small animal that he could freely keep in his apartment.
Chokota-kun's personality is more of a "go your own way" type. He is very free-spirited and rarely sticks to his owner. As an owner, it makes me very happy when they sometimes pamper me. Taking care of Chokota-kun is surprisingly easy: feeding him twice in the morning and evening, replenishing the grass, and cleaning the toilet once in the evening. As the name suggests, the Netherland Dwarf is a breed that originated in the cold regions of the Netherlands, so it can be life-threatening, especially in summer in Japan, where temperatures can exceed 30 degrees.
Therefore, Mr. Iijima uses Echo series, Ratoc system smart remote control, and TP-Link network camera for room temperature control. Some models of the Amazon Echo series are equipped with a temperature sensor. Mr. Iijima uses Alexa's "fixed action" function to notify the Alexa app when the Echo, which is installed in the same room as the cage, senses that the room temperature is 27 degrees or higher. When I received the notification, I checked the pet camera's video, and if necessary, I controlled the air conditioner through the smart remote control at home from the Alexa app, creating an environment where Chokota could always stay at a comfortable temperature.
Until now, he used to check the weather forecast after waking up in the morning, and if it looked like it would be hot, he would turn on the air conditioner in his room and go out. Sometimes I was worried about how Chokota-kun was doing. Therefore, he is very satisfied with the current environment where he can remotely control the room temperature while constantly monitoring changes in temperature wherever he is.
Mr. Iijima also used Echo Show 8 as a monitor to observe Chocota's behavior. By setting a pet camera (Mr. Iijima uses a TP-Link network camera compatible with Alexa) in the cage and linking it with Alexa, you can check the video from a dedicated smartphone application or Echo Show 8 with a display. can do. While working from home, he is healed by seeing Chokota-kun from the work room in his home, and when he goes to the office, he is on the Echo Show 8 installed on his desk.
Enjoy memories with your long-term dog with Amazon Photos
The last person we talked to was Mina Hamada (Amazon Japan Public Relations Headquarters PR Manager). The Hamada family has been dating Jack Russell Terrier Mocha (15 years and 8 months) for more than 15 years. The family, who has always spent time together, has many memorable photos as much as the length of time. Mr. Hamada uses the online storage service "Amazon Photos". Amazon Prime members can save unlimited photo data and videos up to 5GB and view photos on various Amazon devices such as Echo series and Fire TV series.
At Mr. Hamada's house, you can display a slideshow of memorable photos with Mocha saved in Amazon Photos on the Echo Show, and use the Fire TV series where you can enjoy videos from various video distribution services and built-in apps on the TV screen. I use it to project it on the TV screen so that I can always see it. The family used to live abroad before, so seeing pictures of Mocha running in a large dog run in the United States or Canada makes her feel nostalgic.
Furthermore, Mr. Hamada uses Alexa to remind Mocha when it's time to take medicine and to buy pet goods on Amazon.co.jp. With the Echo Show series equipped with Alexa, by saying something like "Alexa, order dog food", recommended products will be displayed on the display based on the order history, and you can easily search Amazon.co.jp by voice. You can shop for
Also, based on the past order history, Alexa will display a reorder notification on the Echo Show display after a certain period of time has passed since the previous order. Even if you forget to buy dog food for seniors and extra-large pet sheets, you won't be able to get them right away. For that reason, the function that reminds you when to buy Alexa is very useful.
