One of the latest examples of digital utilization is the introduction of the "FTB (Flexible & Traditional Bank) tablet system" to all sales offices.
"By using online banking and ATMs, customers can receive certain services without visiting the store. We want to provide value-added services to customers who bother to visit the store. At the same time, we want to provide value-added services. A project to build an FTB tablet system has started to promote business reforms. " That's what Mr. Hiroki Matsubara of the Bank of the Ryukyus says. "The ultimate goal is to rebuild the value and raison d'etre of our branch offices."
Promote the digitization and visualization of various paperwork through tablets placed in sales offices. We aimed to significantly improve work efficiency. The business handled by tablets is wide-ranging, such as opening ordinary deposits, applying for new debit cards and Internet banking, and changing names and addresses. These are the operations that were conventionally processed manually at the sales office.
The project started in June 2019, and the introduction to all sales offices (57 stores) was completed in August 2021. 584 tablets have been distributed.
"The FTB tablet system was newly developed for our business, not using existing packaged products. We also visited other banks' systems, but what we want to do with the system in the world. I came to the conclusion that I couldn't do it, "says Matsubara.

"In our bank, we organized a team by gathering experts from the planning department and each business. We did not gather people who are familiar with IT, and we supplemented the lack of specialized skills by external procurement. We agreed with the members on the IT side. I had a hard time because I didn't have it, but I was able to overcome the difficulties while communicating persistently, "says Matsubara.
The project system was such that the business members were divided into Okinawa and the IT members were divided into the metropolitan area, but they maintained close communication while making heavy use of video conferences. In addition, they went back and forth between bases as needed to share project policies and other information.
"It's an unprecedented system that was developed from scratch. The more people sweated, the greater the joy when it was completed," (Mr. Matsubara).
The features of the FTB tablet system are as follows. First of all, a tablet dedicated to reception was installed separately from the staff at the counter. While reading the cash card and passbook of the customer who visited the store, ask them to select the desired transaction or service. In the past, by obtaining the information grasped in the counter, at the previous stage, the work flow becomes smooth and speedy.

The FTB tablet system is directly connected to the core banking system and is also linked to other systems. This made it possible to create an efficient flow of business processes while minimizing manual intervention.
