This example questions the difference between the enable secret command and the enable password command. The enable command sets the password used for authentication when moving from user EXE mode to privileged EXE mode. Differences between the enable password and enable secret commands include: enable secret password In the above command, the password is hashed and encrypted with the MD5 algorithm and set. enable password password In the above command, the password is set in clear text. The following is an example of setting a password with enable secret and enable password. After setting, check the setting status of the show running-config command. A display example is shown below. This example is an excerpt from the display. If you set both the enable secret and enable password commands as in this example, the password set with enable secret takes precedence. Therefore, when logging in again, you must enter the password set in enable secret.
