NEC launches PC coating service to inactivate new coronavirus
On January 19, NEC announced that glass equipped with "H shield technology" that inactivates viruses and bacteria such as the new coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) for business and educational PCs. Announced the provision of a coating service for the coating agent "Dr. Hadlas EX". "Dr. Hadras EX" is a product provided by Hadras Holdings, and the company and NEC have signed an exclusive contract to provide this service. The service will be available from late February 2022.
The service offers two menus: "application at the kitting center" and "business trip application at the site visit". In either menu, workers who have acquired NEC's original certification will apply the coating to the personal computer. The service is applicable not only to NEC brand products, but also to newly purchased PCs and PCs currently in use. The prices for the services provided are as follows.
By applying this coating agent onto a non-permeable material such as plastic, it reacts with moisture in the air to form a high-purity glass film. This glass coating not only protects the computer from dirt and scratches, but the antiviral and antibacterial ingredients attack and destroy the proteins on the surface of viruses and bacteria, inactivating viruses and bacteria.
On January 14th, NEC held a preliminary briefing session for media at its headquarters, where a demonstration of application to personal computers was carried out. When applying the coating agent, the process of “wiping with a towel” → “applying the coating agent with a fiber cloth” → “wiping off with a towel” is performed twice in succession.
Hadras Holdings Chief Researcher Genki Odawara said, ``Drag wipes are used to remove fingerprints, sebum, and dirt.It can be applied to almost all materials such as metals, plastics, and resins. However, the coating agent is smooth. Since it is in a liquid form, it is not suitable for fabrics and fibers that are easily soaked by liquids."
This service covers desktop computers, laptops, and tablet terminals, but smartphones are not covered.
For desktop computers, a coating agent is applied to the parts that are touched by human hands, such as the power button, keyboard, and mouse. For notebook computers, the surface of the housing including the top plate is coated all over the display, keyboard, touchpad, etc. For tablet terminals, the display and its back are coated.
However, if you apply it over the AF coat (anti-fingerprint coat), the coating agent will be repelled, so do not apply it to the areas where the AF coat is applied. If the display has an AF coating, it is possible to apply the film on top of it.
The coating agent used in this service has acquired SIAA (antiviral and antibacterial processing) certification from the international organization ISO. In addition, in an evaluation test by the Japan Textile Product Quality Technology Center, it was confirmed that the SARS-CoV-2 reduction rate was 99.9% or more 24 hours after application. Furthermore, in tests by Hadras Holdings, it was confirmed that the glass film after application remained for up to five years.
Mr. Odawara said, ``SIAA is a certification that is intended for use in people's surroundings, and emphasizes safety for the human body. , so even if it accidentally enters the mouth or adheres to the skin, it does not affect the human body."
